Disciple Bible Studies

Disciple Bible Study is an intensive study of the Bible that encourages participants to grow in their understanding of God and their discipleship of Jesus Christ. Participants meet weekly to hear teaching through a video and engage in conversation with other participants about how they interpret and apply the scripture lessons from the week's reading. Each participant is provided a workbook. At Bethlehem First UMC, we offer a variety of different options for those who are interested in the Disciple Bible Studies. Groups meet at various days and times throughout the week. Participation in Disciple I (or Disciple I Fast Track) is a prerequisite for all other Disciple Bible Studies.

If you would like to know more about Disciple Bible Studies and options available through Bethlehem First UMC, please contact Rev. Megan Gomez in the church office.

Sunday Nights from 5:00-7:00pm

Disciple 1—Facilitated by Mary Lee Howard. The first Disciple Bible Study serves as the basis for all other studies in the Disciple family that follow. Over the course of 34 weeks, Disciple covers the entire Bible (Old and New Testaments) following the Biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. The cost for the book is $31.99 through July 31st. Price may increase after this date.

Disciple 4—Facilitated by Coach Connerley. The phrase "under the tree of life" conveys the promise of finding shelter, security, and rest in God's love. In this 32-week study of the Old Testament writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude, and finally, Revelation, participants will see the entire process of living toward final completion of rest and reward. Book is $31.99 through July 31. Price may increase after this date.

Christian Believer—Facilitated by Joy Langan. This program focuses on classical teachings of the Christian faith—presenting, explaining, and interpreting them in a way that participants can understand, through the use of words, symbols, and hymns. Over a 30-week period, participants will examine the writings of ancient and modern Christian commentators and view video presentations by leading Bible scholars. Books cost $37.79 through July 31. Price may increase after this date.

Wednesday Nights from 6:30-8:00pm

Jesus in the Gospels Fast Track—Facilitated by Kim Furlow. Study the name, the place, and the people, and encounter the Jesus who is both hard to ignore and hard to control--a commanding, morally compelling figure as portrayed in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This is a 30-week study.

Wednesday Mornings from 10:00-11:30am

Disciple 2 Fast Track—Facilitated by Becky Adcock. This program helps participants deepen their understanding of Scripture and engage in spiritual disciplines over a 24 week period while applying what they learn in real world ministry. No childcare is provided.
