Director of Student Ministry
Bethlehem First UMC, located in Bethlehem Ga., just outside of Athens, is seeking a full time Director of Student Ministries (grades 6th-12th). We are looking for an inspired individual who can take a successful student ministry to the next level of vitality. Our vision for student ministry is to create engaging environments, activities and learning experiences for students to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. We need a team player to fit in with our church staff; someone who can recruit, grow, train, support and encourage a team of committed volunteers. This person needs to be very creative, enthusiastic, have an energetic engaging personality, demonstrate effective communication skills, and have experience in leading large groups. Applicants should demonstrate a growing faith in Jesus Christ, have an understanding of Methodism, possess a deep love for students, and display a desire to continue to grow and expand our current student ministry. This position will also oversee the social media outreach of BFUMC by maintaining all social media platforms including: our church website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat accounts. Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of student ministry experience; a college degree and experience with middle-school or high-school education or ministry is a plus.

Monday-Thursday and Sunday (35 hours/week)
The mission of Bethlehem First UMC is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The ministry of the Youth Program shall be consistent with the principles of the Holy Bible, and the philosophies of the United Methodist Church as outlined in the Book of Discipline. The Director of Youth Ministries shall work under the guidance of the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee and report directly to the Senior Pastor.

- Acknowledge and insure strict adherence to the policies and procedures of the Bethlehem First United Methodist Church Employee Handbook.
Facilitate and manage a growing youth ministry in Bethlehem that emphasizes involvement in worship, growth through small groups, and local missions.
Coordinate games, worship, and discussion for Sunday night youth gathering.
Coordinate Sunday School program on Sunday morning.
Plan, promote, and execute an annual middle school retreat, high school retreat, and summer mission trip.
Attendance Church Council meetings (held every other month).
o Work with lay representative to develop Grow 2 ministry area
Attendance and participation at weekly staff meetings.
Coordinate youth small group ministry program for Wednesday night activities.
o Provide training for small group leaders to help facilitate grade level groups.
Follow up with youth visitors and families in worship and youth activities.
Connect with youth who are disconnected from the church.
Provide quarterly outreach events for local middle school and high school students.
Have a presence on campus of local schools (middle and high school).
o Be visible at student events on school campuses as often as possible and invite volunteer leaders to accompany you at those visits.
Involvement in local missions through the church.
Involvement in district and conference youth ministries.
Promote BFUMC core values of WINGS (Worship, Invite, Nurture, Grow, and Serve) within the youth ministry.
Partner with parents by providing workshops, classes, small groups, meeting parents for coffee, etc.
Maintain all communications for youth ministry (Facebook, Twitter, website, inner church communications, email, etc.).
o Communicate effectively and regularly using all forms of communication accessible to parents and youth.
Recruit all weekly youth ministry volunteers and establish a schedule with them.
Meet regularly with each youth ministry volunteers (at least once per year and check in with them at least quarterly).
Encourage youth to attend and participate in Sunday morning worship.
Prepare necessary reports as needed regarding the state of the youth ministry, including Annual Conference and End of Year Reports.
Coordinate annual Confirmation program.
Active presence in all Sunday morning worship services.
Plan and oversee annual Youth Ministry Budget.
Direct of Youth Ministry will also oversee all social media outreach for Bethlehem First UMC including but not limited to: Church website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat accounts. Responsibilities include weekly posting of church events and activities to all social media platforms, regular maintenance and upkeep of church website, advertisement of special events, activities and services for all ministry areas.
This job description may occasionally be updated at the discretion of the Senior Pastor and/or the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee. In the event this position is vacated, a two-week minimum advance notice is required to avoid forfeiture of pay.
